Reported cyberattacks on U.S. government computer networks climbed 40 percent last year, according to statistics USA Today received from the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT).
Federal News Radio reports that Michele Heffner, director of Interagency Policy and Management at the General Services Administration, will help Obama's chief technology officer carry out the president's executive order on open and transparent government. "This is yet another sign of how the Obama administration envisions the CTO role," according to Jason Miller.
Federal Times reports the Transportation Security Administration plans to test the use of encrypted bar codes on boarding passes, which if viable, would make it more difficult for individuals to forge travel documents
Existing technologies and regulations could make it difficult for the Obama administration to realize its vision for Recovery.gov, Nextgov reports. The site launched today after the president signed the stimulus bill.
But a blogger at the Huffington Post reports that the Obama administration plans to add functionality to the site as time goes on.
