Services to Share the Cyber Thing

That's the bottom line on cyberspace from the Quadrennial Roles and Missions Review Report signed by the secretary of Defense last week. And it seems to put an end to Air Force hopes of running the cyber show.

The QDR report said Defense has "determined that it is appropriate for each service to conduct cyberspace operations." To support the mission the department will need to train 1,000 cyber warriors every year, or double the current capacity of 500 computer network operations specialists it trains annually.

Cyberattack as well as cyber defense will play a key role as Defense seeks strategic, operational and tactical capabilities that include "freedom from unwanted intrusions and the ability to deny an adversary's freedom of action in cyberspace."

I hope the new breed of cyber warriors can figure out how to handle the attack mission without knocking out my Internet connection.
