The Air Force said President Obama will nominate Maj. Gen. William T. Lord for promotion to a three-star rank and a new assignment as the service's chief information officer and chief of warfighting integration.
Lord, who is currently commander of the Air Force Cyber Command (Provisional) at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., led the Air Force's valiant but ill-fated effort to run all cyber stuff within the Defense Department, losing out to the National Security Agency, designated last week as the Joint Functional Component Command for Network Warfare.
Lord replaces Lt. Gen. William Shelton, who will become Air Force assistant vice chief of staff.
Hopefully Lord has good relations with NSA director Lt. Gen. Keith Alexander.
