Federal Internships for Military Spouses

Military spouses spend much of their lives wandering from post to post for 20 years, a situation not exactly conducive to landing and holding on to a good job.

The House Armed Services Committee wants to make their career search easier. In a report accompanying its version of the fiscal 2010 Defense authorization bill, it would establish an internship program for military spouses that would offer them career opportunities when the time comes to relocate.

Joe Davis, a spokesman for the Veterans of Foreign Wars hailed the project and said,

"No longer will one member of the household be forced to give up their career every time new assignment orders are received."

Davis added the initiative not only helps military families but it helps the federal government offset the mass exodus of a retiring Boomer Generation
