U.S. Forces Korea Another Cyber Victim?

Repeated attempts to reach the Web site of U.S Forces Korea on Wednesday afternoon failed -- an indication that the alleged cyberattack launched by North Korea over the July 4 weekend against South Korean and U.S. government Web sites continues.

The Web site of the Army command in Korea, the 8th Army, did pop up after a couple of connection attempts from What's New Mexico headquarters, but it took roughly a minute. The response from the Osan Air Force Base Web site in South Korea took only a matter of seconds.

Connection to the site operated by the commander of Naval Forces Korea also was speedy, an indication that only select U.S. military Web sites in South Korea went down as the result of the alleged North Korea Distributed Denial of Service attack.

Tim Madden, a spokesman for Joint Task Force-Global Network Operations, which manages cyber defense for the Pentagon, declined to comment on whether or not the North Korean attacks took down the U.S. Forces Korea Web site.
