Roy Wulff, Chief Information Officer for the British Defence staff at the British Embassy in Washington gave the Pentagon a "well done" for its use of a blog to develop policy within the U.S. Defense Department.
In a post on the DoD Web 2.0 Guidance Forum Wulff commented:
"I believe the education aspect of this program cannot be over emphasized. In addition, having senior leadership actually see what is being discussed. Too often, a software application or social media application is dismissed by leadership without actually seeing the app in action."
Wulff also offered some good advice to the Pentagon on how to manage social media:
"Best Practice: Make sure there is some structure to how the Official sites are indexed. This will prevent the "Wild West" which occurred with Web 1.0 (IE - Having a zillion different sites with zero correlation."
