White House uses social media to get green ideas

White House officials are using social media for a program named GreenGov Challenge that asks federal employees and military personnel to submit ideas for clean energy, according to a blog post Open Government Initiative Web site.

Federal employees and military members can submit ideas and vote on other ideas as part of the program. The program is related to the recent implementation of the president’s executive order on Federal Sustainability, according to White House officials.

Any federal employee or military service member can submit a clean energy idea to WhiteHouse.gov/GreenGov until Oct. 31. White House officials announced the GreenGov Challenge on Oct. 19.

At the beginning of November, some of the top ideas will be presented to the Steering Committee on Federal Sustainability – a group comprised of a senior official from each agency responsible for delivering each agency’s sustainability plan, according to the White House.

Although anyone can see the ideas, only Federal and military personnel can participate. The program is similar to another White House program that solicited budget reduction ideas from federal employees.
