GSA hires collaboration specialist from NAPA
Munz says he's been interested in innovations on collaboration and social media between the public and private sectors.
Dan Munz will join the General Services Administration’s Office of Citizen Services and Communications Jan. 11 to help the agency build a new program to engage people, he wrote today on his blog at DanielMunz.com.
Munz will end his time at the National Academy of Public Administration where most recently he is the project manager of GSA's Dialogue on USA.gov, and a spokesman for NAPA confirmed that Munz is leaving.
Dave McClure, associate administrator of the Office of Citizen Services and Communications, said Munz will be an asset to the office and he looks forward to working with Munz at GSA.
"Dan's experience and unique perspective will be a great contribution to the Office of Citizen Services as we continue to help facilitate public dialogs across government," McClure said.
Recently, GSA’s Office of Citizen Services joined with NAPA to conduct a three-week online collaborative discussion to get customers' feedback on USA.gov. USA.gov is a government-run online Web site designed to connect people with government offices and services.
According to NAPA’s Web site, GSA wants to find ways to improve its services and better engage the public. The agency wants to develop useful content for targeted audiences and create an outreach strategy that reaches them. It also wants to set up a Web site for the public to share its ideas with the government.
Munz says he's has been very interested in innovations regarding collaboration and social media between the public and private sectors.
“For about the past two years, my interest and passion have been particularly drawn to public engagement: The question of how technology can enable leaders in government to hear the voices of citizens and leverage the wisdom of crowds,” Munz wrote in the blog post.
GSA’s program reach out is “rapidly evolving — that’s part of the fun,” Munz added.
“GSA has long been a leader in connecting citizens to government using the Internet, and some of GSA's recent initiatives — like Go.USA.gov and the Apps.gov portal — have been some of the coolest innovations I’ve seen in enabling government to really take advantage of the ubiquity of social platforms. I’m so excited to be joining an incredible team with an incredible mission,” Munz wrote.
