He was a driving force behind the open-government agenda and contributed to President Barack Obama’s Open Government Memorandum. The memo ultimately led to OMB's Open Government Directive.

Chenok also advised key government officials, and his insights on government IT were important to how the Obama administration worked on its reforms.

“As a former government executive, Dan worked passionately to help improve government by providing key insights and solutions for solving emerging issues,” said Venkatapathi Puvvada, vice president and managing partner at Unisys Federal Systems.
