Federal 100: John Murphy
John Murphy
Director, USA.gov Technologies
General Services Administration
Days after Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Murphy volunteered to help create the Recovery.gov Web site to track spending and serve as a model of federal transparency and accountability. He took on the work while managing the technical teams that oversee USA.gov, the government's Web portal.
Murphy helped organize a team that launched Recovery.gov in 17 days, and it had 4,300 visitors on its first day of operation.
“John Murphy seemed to work 24/7 managing the Recovery.gov content team and the operational aspects of the Web site,” said Earl Devaney, chairman of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board that oversees spending under the stimulus law. “When problems arose with the Web site or content, John could always be counted on to help fix things — no matter the hour.”
