Facebook taps White House official for VP post
Facebook has hired Marne Levine to be its vice president of global public policy in the Washington, D.C. office.
Facebook has hired Marne Levine as its new vice president of global public policy. Levine will be based in Washington and work on expanding the company's outreach to global governments.
Levine currently is the chief of staff of the White House’s National Economic Council.
“With over 70 percent of our users living outside the United States, her unique mix of government and Internet industry experience will be invaluable to help Facebook address some of the most interesting questions at the intersection of technology and public policy,” Elliot Schrage, Facebook’s vice president of global communications, marketing and public policy, said in a statement quoted by the Washington Post on June 24.

Tim Sparapani will continue to serve as director of Facebook’s D.C. office and manage outreach to Congress and the federal government, the statement said.
At the economic council, Levine served as chief of staff for Lawrence Summers, council director. She also served as Summers’ chief of staff when he was president of Harvard University.
The hiring was announced on June 24. Levine's starting date was not immediately available, although media reports suggest she will start the Facebook position in several weeks.
