Obama Orders Second Try at Bringing More Disabled into Federal Workforce

President Obama hopes to succeed where President Clinton failed, and reinvigorate a 10-year-old plan to bring 100,000 disabled workers into the federal workforce.

Obama signed an executive order on July 26 that requires the Office of Personnel Management, the secretary of labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the director of the Office of Management and Budget to come up with recruiting and hiring strategies for the effort. The order also tasks agencies to develop their own plans to promoting employment opportunities for disabled workers.

President Clinton launched the effort in 2000, with plans to bring the 100,000 onboard in five years.
