As doctors and hospitals across the country make the transition from paper files to easily accessible electronic records, a demand for health information technology workers is mounting.Indian River State College in Fort Pierce hopes to ease that demand -- and provide training so local residents have the skills for those types of careers -- by offering a health information program using a grant worth more than $800,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
"I think the opportunity to streamline medical records is so needed in our country," said Dr. Al Roberts, IRSC vice president for applied science and technology.
