Open Gov: One Year Later
Today marks the one-year anniversary of the White House issuing its unprecedented Open Government Directive, which required agencies to begin taking steps to expand access to and improve the quality of government information. Since the directive was issued, each agency has been required to create an open government website and develop and publish an open government plan on how to improve transparency and integrate public participation and collaboration into activities.
It also marks one year since I wrote about the directive and its underlying workforce challenges, including the potential for culture clash among the generations in the workplace over how to use and share information and the possibility for new and increased work demands, particularly among federal IT workers.
How has your job changed in the past year as a result of the open government directive? Have cultural or generational issues impacted your agency's ability to successfully roll it out?
