Wennergren Gets New Defense Hat -- Briefly

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Tuesday that he tapped David Wennergren, the Pentagon's assistant deputy chief management officer, to also serve as director of the Business Transformation Agency, replacing David Fisher.

That will most likely be a short term assignment as Gates announced in August he planned to eliminate BTA, which has a staff of 360 and an annual budget of $340 million. The anticipated shutdown is part of an overall plan to cut $100 billion in overhead from the Defense budget over the next five years.

Other SESers with new jobs as the result of the latest personnel deck shuffle by Gates include:

Robert Butler, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for cyber policy. Butler previously served as deputy assistant secretary of Defense for cyber and space policy.

Gregory Schulte, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for space policy. He previously served as foreign relations and defense policy manager, global strategic affairs.

Sumit Agarwal, senior adviser, Principal Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Policy), for Cyber Engagement and Innovation. Agarwal previously served as deputy assistant secretary of defense, public affairs outreach and social media.
