Federal 100: Ronald C. Jones
Ronald C. Jones
Web Manager/Internet Projects Specialist
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Commerce Department
Twitter is becoming a standard feature for agency communications, but Ron Jones took it a few steps further at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, turning it into a potentially life-saving tool.
Using standards that Jones developed, NOAA’s National Weather Service can monitor Twitter for any postings about severe weather conditions around the country and incorporate that information into its official warnings.
Jones also has promoted innovative uses of the Web and social media throughout government. He was instrumental in writing one of the first federal social media policies and has been a passionate advocate for Section 508 accessibility standards.
