Catch-Up Pay for Troops?
The Defense Finance and Accounting Service is looking at a special "catch-up" pay day for military personnel if the potential government shutdown delays payment on April 15 and 30, the American Forces Press Service reported.
If the shutdown were to end on Tuesday, April 12, DFAS officials said they believe they would be able to get the full pay into checks by April 15.
"If [the shutdown] were to go as long as April 30, then neither military nor civilians will get any pay at all," a senior defense official said.
But the last time I checked, the folks in Congress who cannot enact budgets will continue to be paid during the shutdown. I'm sure this thrills all the young troops stationed at Forward Operating bases in Afghanistan.
