OMB nomination hits confirmation snag

A top Republication is opposing President Barack Obama's nomination of Heather Higginbottom as deputy director of the  Office of Management and Budget, according to a Fox News report.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), the Budget Committee's top Republican, says Higginbottom is not up to the task due to her lack of experience, citing that she is green in the areas of "business or accounting or budget or responsibility or management," the article states.

OMB defended Higginbottom's record, writing in an e-mail message to FoxNews.com that she "has worked at the highest levels of policymaking in the legislative and executive branches for more than a decade."

In March, Federal Computer Week reported that Higginbottom's nomination was approved by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee by 6 to 4.

Higginbottom is deputy director of the White House's Domestic Policy Council and previously was policy director for Obama’s presidential campaign.
