Google Finds Luna, N.M.

Just over a week ago, I observed that Google Maps had decided to move the small town of Luna, N.M. (located five miles east of Arizona in the Gila National Forest), some 150 miles south, near Deming, 74 miles east of the Arizona border.

That geographical error has been corrected. When I checked yesterday, Google had restored Luna to its correct spot on Earth, and not as viewed from the Googleplex.

This was not an inconsequential cartographical error -- Luna has been threatened by the massive Wallow Fire, just over the border in Arizona, and was evacuated this weekend when the fire jumped the state border.
