Navy SEALS Site Needs More Bandwidth
The Navy operates a commercial website to recruit SEALS and Special Warfare Combat Crewmen, and it's been slammed with traffic since the SEALS took out Osama bin Laden on May 2.
The Naval Special Warfare Recruiting Directorate summed up the interest in all things SEAL since then in the dry language of a FedBizOpps notice last month that mentions "recent events" demonstrating that the website is "vulnerable to significant spikes in traffic."
The SEALS are looking for an outfit that can upgrade the hardware that runs the website as well as provide flexible bandwidth to manage traffic peaks.
The SEALS want a pipe which runs at 25 mpbs under a normal load, as well a reserve capacity of 75 mpbs in 25 and 50 mbps increments to handle peak loads.
I imagine anyone who wins this contract will make sure they deliver -- who wants to irritate the SEALS?
