Group claims credit for Fox News Twitter hack

A group of hackers named the Script Kiddies has taken responsibility — or perhaps credit in its view — for a series of messages posted on Fox News' Twitter account over the July 4 weekend claiming that President Barack Obama had been assassinated, according to The Week on Yahoo News.

The tweets posted July 4 claimed that Obama had been shot and killed while campaigning at a restaurant in Iowa. (This may have been the first clue to the phony nature of the tweets because Obama spent the holiday weekend at the White House and Camp David.) A series of follow-up tweets wished Vice President Joe Biden "the best of luck" and expressed support for "the late president's family."

The hack of Fox News' account attracted the attention of the Secret Service, which said it was investigating the incident. According to Mashable, Fox alerted the Secret Service to the hack and was told that the agency would do "appropriate follow-up."

The Secret Service probe will be aided by the Script Kiddies' claim of responsibility for the hack. The organization says it is linked to the better known hacker group Anonymous, Yahoo News reports.
