New Cyber Scholarships Available
Just days after the Obama administration released a blueprint for recruiting, hiring, training and retaining cybersecurity workers, a leading cyber training and certification nonprofit is doing its part by beefing up its scholarship program to accelerate the growth of cyber careers.
The (ISC)² Foundation announced Monday that it is broadening the reach of its Information Security Scholarship Program to include new scholarships specifically geared toward women and undergraduates pursuing cybersecurity careers.
The new women's scholarship program will help female undergraduate and graduate students around the world by offering two scholarships totaling up to $40,000 per year. (ISC)² also will be awarding a number of $5,000 scholarships to qualifying students who have declared a major in a computer or network security-related discipline.
The (ISC)² Foundation also has teamed up with the U.S. Cyber Challenge and its summer camps over the past month to provide college scholarships and vouchers for the Systems Security Certified Practitioner exam to the winners of the "Skills Challenge/Virtual Capture-the-Flag Competition." The foundation also supported this summer's camps by offering high school and undgraduate attendees the opportunity to participate in security credentialing and providing courseware and materials to teachers and schools.
"As the complexity and volume of cyber attacks increase, we will continue to offer scholarship opportunities that will further the recruiting and retaining of a new global workforce capable of preventing, detecting and responding to attacks on information systems," said Julie Peeler, foundation manager for (ISC)².
