Application Overhaul

You already know which agencies are best for launching a government career. Now, social networking website GovLoop has created some new online services to make that government career a reality.

The new site, Jobs.GovLoop.com, highlights the 10 best job postings on USAJOBs each week in several categories, including information technology, acquisition and human resources as well as entry-level and $100K-plus jobs.

The website also has launched the "Rock Your Resume" free resume review service, a joint project with Young Government Leaders that provides job seekers with a free professional review with career experts. To date, 600 members have joined the service and more than 100 candidates have received resume reviews.

GovLoop also is offering online training courses with career experts on topics ranging from networking tips, writing federal resumes and advice for new hires. More than 2,000 participants have attended online training sessions thus far.

In July, GovLoop launched an online governmentwide mentoring program that allows government workers of all generations to meet and learn from each other. Matches are made based on user interests, skill sets and other areas, such as help with management or technology. The program is free and is now accepting applicants to participate, beginning in January 2012.

Meanwhile, the Office of Personnel Management last week announced plans to overhaul USAJOBS.gov to make the application process smoother for potential hires and federal recruiters. The new USAJOBS 3.0 is set to debut on Oct. 13.
