DISA Eyes Follow-On to $4.8B Network Contract
The Defense Information Systems Agency wants to hear from carriers who can provide the Defense Department with a global telecommunications network, replacing a contract awarded to SAIC and Apptis in 2001.
DISA originally put out a request for information for the Network Services for Defense Information System Network on Oct. 7, and amended it on Oct. 21 to extend the due date for responses to Nov. 4.
DISA has raised the ceiling value of the original $3 billion contract twice, with the latest bump bringing it to $4.8 billion on March 19, 2010.
Since a global Defense network requires a whole mess of wire, DISA said it wants to hear from serious players only, not Joe's Network Co. The agency wants carriers that can "deliver high value services at a competitive price," keeping in mind "the rapidly changing political and fiscal landscape."
