The work: Taking a fine-tooth comb to operations at Air Force headquarters to save money and create a smoother-running operation.
The impact: McMillin increased the use of joint enterprise solutions for Air Force IT and doubled the expected savings to $2.6 billion.
The nuts and bolts: McMillin led a team that evaluated cyberspace operations at headquarters offices. He also more closely aligned the work of the Air Force’s CIO with the service’s strategic plan and succeeded in getting approval from the secretary of the Air Force on the first CIO mission directive since 2002.
