Federal 100: Lt. Col. Peter C. Barclay
Lt. Col. Peter C. Barclay
Director of Advanced
Technologies
U.S. Army
The work: Leading the launch of the Army’s enterprise e-mail program.
The impact: The Army has migrated 270,000 users to the program, which is expected to save $100 million a year.
The nuts and bolts: Barclay has been guiding the enterprise e-mail effort behind the scenes since its inception. His team tested Microsoft’s support for new authentication software for Outlook and provided critical feedback. As a result, patches were rapidly developed, tested and deployed across Microsoft’s entire customer base, including the Defense Department. Barclay also provided technical expertise and support for the cost/benefit analysis for the project and personally trained more than 500 Army IT professionals on how to use the new system.
