Get Ready for the Space Weather Forum
I received a really nice note today from Samuel Williamson, Federal Coordinator for Meteorology, alerting me to the upcoming 2012 Space Weather Enterprise Forum at the National Press Club on Tuesday June 5, which sounds like a real go-to event for anyone whose operations or business could be hit by changes in space weather.
And that's likely, based on the theme of this year's forum "Solar Maximum 2013: How Space Weather Will Affect You!"
Next year, Williamson said, will mark a peak in solar activity, which means the country faces "a growing number of uncertainties regarding the reliability and resiliency of our national technological infrastructure and economy as a result of the increasing intensity and frequency of space weather events."
In case you wonder how space weather fits into your life, the forum has track that addresses that question: Space Weather and Why It Matters. Or, in the immortal words of jazz musician Sun Ra in his 1970s composition, "Space is the Place."
More details on the confab are available here.
