IED-fighting organization gets new information chief
The Marine Corps' deputy chief information officer has told Nextgov he is leaving to become CIO of a Defense Department organization that develops and fields technology to thwart the improvised explosive devices that have caused many casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan.
James Craft will assume his new position at the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization on April 9. He began as deputy CIO for the Marines in October 2006. Prior to that, he was a telecommunications adviser to reconstruction teams in Afghanistan.
Craft served on active duty as a Marine communications officer from 1979 to 1983, and held a number of jobs in industry before his tour in Afghanistan, including stints at Raytheon Co. and PricewaterhouseCoopers' Washington Federal Practice.
Brig. Gen. Kevin Nally, CIO of the Marines, said Craft's replacement has not yet been selected.
