GSA questioned for dubious kickback offer to contractors
Agency offered tax breaks in exchange for payments, according to reports.
A federal agency already under fire for squandering taxpayers’ money is once again in the limelight for alleged unscrupulous behavior.
The Associated Press reports the General Services Administration offered tax breaks to contractors for making government buildings “greener.” But that offer came with strings attached: The contractor had to pay nearly one-fourth of what the tax break was worth.
GSA said its action to require money from contractors was legal. An oversight panel is now investigating the matter, AP reported.
