TSA equipment gathering dust, House Republicans charge

Rep. Mica wants to scale back the agency’s duties.
The Transportation Security Administration shelved $184 million in security equipment in a warehouse instead of putting the tools to use, the Washington Post has reported, citing House Republican investigators.
The report on the TSA’s alleged waste was set to be presented Wednesday at a joint hearing of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. David Nicholson, chief financial officer of the TSA, and Charles Edwards, acting inspector general of the Homeland Security Department, were slated to testify.
TSA has come fire from Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., transportation committee chairman, who has called for the agency to be scaled down and its duties farmed out to contractors, according to the report.
