Air Force Needs Outside Help With Renewable Energy Plants
Service plans to generate 1 billion watts of renewable energy on its bases by 2025.
The Air Force plans to generate 1 billion watts of renewable energy on its bases by 2025, but in order to meet this goal, the service will need some outside help, Secretary Michael Donley told the National Clean Energy Summit Tuesday.
Donley said he envisioned a public-private partnership much like the Army launched Tuesday through 30-year contracts valued at $7 billion to purchase power from solar, wind, biomass or geothermal plants on its installations.
The Air Force also wants to cut fuel usage by replacing traditional vehicles with electric powered cars and trucks and said the 40 vehicle fleet at Los Angeles Air Force Base is now all electric.
