So How About Those Approps Bills?

Congress leaves town without passing funding legislation.

Congress fled town today for a five-week summer recess (they don’t like to call a really long vacation a vacation) without passing any appropriations bills.

Nada. None. Zilch.

But hey, they need to leave town to for a long time to pursue their primary mission -- getting reelected.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee did find the time yesterday to hold a hearing on the losses Amtrak experiences selling burgers and soda -- rather than work on its appropriations bill -- which may explain why Congressfolk have lower approval ratings  from the public than bankers or Richard Nixon.
