It Seems Defense Really Doesn’t Need Much Money to Develop Its Acquisition Workforce

The Defense Department’s fiscal 2013 budget request included $274.2 million to develop its acquisition workforce. But by the time Congress got around to passing the continuing resolution, signed by President Obama in March, that funding line had been whittled down by more than three-quarters to $50.2 million.

The Senate, according to the way late, 302-page conference report, thought that improving the way Defense bought stuff, hiring more acquisition folks, and training seemed like such a good idea that it more than doubled the budget acquisition workforce budget request to $720 million, but the House prevailed with its $50.2 million mark.

Maybe we should just run acquisitions like lotteries.
