Letter The continuing saga of CRs
We were under a continuing resolution for all of fiscal 2007 and now the first quarter of fiscal 2008. Therefore, our "budget" is still at the fiscal 2006 spending level. Why does it take our Congress and president more than 15 months to approve a budget?
Many other departments and agencies are in the same situation. I feel that Congress and the president are hurting these agencies and the public that depends on these agencies by not sitting down and hammering out these budgets. Not once, in my 19 years of service, has a budget been in place on Oct. 1. We have always been under a CR for the first one to three months of every fiscal year. One year, the agency was shut down and everyone sent home because a CR was not even approved.
This is a major problem that really needs to be addressed.
