Army Awards Six Vendors Hardware Deals Valued at $494M

Despite budget cuts and the adoption of new mobile technology, the Army continues to invest heavily in the nuts and bolts of old fashioned computing. Last Friday the service awarded six firms contracts with a total value of $494 million for servers, storage, cables, printers and other computer hardware.
Erin Buechel Wieczorek, a spokeswoman for the Army’s Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems, said the deals cover an extension of the service’s Army Information Technology Enterprise Solutions-2 Hardware contracts from Aug. 22, 2013, through July 18, 2014. The Army awarded the ITES-2H contracts in February 2007 and they had an estimated ceiling value of $5 billion.
Friday’s firm fixed-price, multiple-award, task-order contracts went to the incumbent ITES-2H vendors: CDW Government LLC , Dell Federal Systems, International Business Machines Corp., Unicom Government Inc., Iron Bow Technologies LLC and World Wide Technology Inc.
The Army issued a request for proposals for its follow-on $5 billion ITES-3H contract on Sept. 25, 2012, and an award is expected by the end of this year.
