Data centers and cloud contracts dominated FCW's headlines in the past few days, notably with an update on Amazon Web Services' contract with the CIA. The cloud provider has gone to court to try to secure its earlier win – overturned by a protest—of a contract to create a private cloud for the entire intelligence community.

Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, lawmakers bristled at the news that more than twice as many data centers need to be consolidated as they had originally been told. The gross miscalculation provoked angry questions and sharp words during a July 25 hearing.

On a more positive note, the Army is nearly done with its long-running efforts to migrate to an enterprise email system.

David Wennergren, a respected and longtime member of the federal IT community, plans to retire in early August.
