Hilton Sets Up Website to Match Vet Skills with Promising Jobs
Opportunities range from entry level positions to six-figure engineering jobs.
A lot of companies like to wave the “we hire vets “ flag, but the opportunities they offer often turn out to be dead end, minimum wage jobs with few benefits and little chance of promotion.
Hilton Worldwide, which operates 4,000 hotels and timeshare properties, has taken a radically different approach, starting with a dedicated website launched Thursday, which automatically matches Military Occupational Specialty codes with Hilton job openings.
A quick look at the site shows jobs ranging from entry level front-desk or food service positions to high-paying engineer or eCommerce openings.
Rodney Moses, vice president of global recruitment at Hilton, told me that vets with a military engineering specialty make a good match with the company’s requirements for engineers at its hotels, with engineer jobs at its top properties paying in the six figure range.
The MOS job match site remains a work in progress, and he said the company is currently tweaking it to better match information technology MOS codes with Hilton’s IT requirements.
Moses said vets should not ignore the entry level jobs either, as the company wants to provide them with a career path and rapid promotions, backed by a mentorship program under its Operation Opportunity project.
Hilton believes that veterans have learned the true meaning of the kind of service the company wants to deliver, and make a “perfect match,” Moses said. The veteran jobs project also honors the memory of the founder of the chain, Conrad Hilton, a U.S. Army World War I veteran, Moses said.
Hilton has set a goal of hiring 10,000 vets over the next five years and Moses said he would “like to double or triple that.”
