Tech Jobs on the Rise, and Not Just in the Usual Places
Massachusetts, Missouri and New Jersey see significant rise in IT openings, report finds.
The technology employment landscape continues to yield positive news, and many tech professionals may be surprised to learn that top jobs are no longer limited to powerhouse states like California, New York and Virginia.
This month’s issue of the Dice Report notes significant growth in tech jobs in several states that are not generally considered top spots for technology employment. The state with the largest tech job growth so far this year is New Jersey, which posted a 5.2 percent rise.
“New Jersey is intent on courting small and mid-sized tech businesses through incentive grants to firms that create just 10 new positions in New Jersey’s growing tech sector,” the report states.
Other states also are charging ahead of the powerhouses when it comes to tech jobs. Massachusetts and Missouri posted growth of 4 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively, in large part thanks to outreach and advocacy programs designed to boost tech jobs. Texas tech job creation also is growing at twice the rate (3.2 percent) as the state’s private sector employment (1.6 percent), with opportunities ranging from cloud software in Austin to defense contractors in San Antonio, Dice found.
