TBI and Video Games Don’t Mix
And avoid booze, too.
The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center released new recommendations on Thursday to help troops recover from mild traumatic brain injury based on a standardized, six-step approach that starts with much needed rest and progresses to a return to full duty.
The clinical guidelines emphasize that resting the brain means avoiding video games during the first three stages of recovery, along with admonitions against drinking alcohol through the first five phases of recovery.
Army Col. Sidney Hinds, II, director of the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center, said, “These recommendations offer a standardized medical approach for service members who have sustained a mTBI to return to activity in a manner which facilitates optimal recovery.”
