Video: State's new push to recruit citizen mappers
The MapGive project is crowdsourcing tasks to improve geodata for humanitarian efforts.
Early in 2013, the State Department's Imagery to the Crowd initiative began sharing satellite imagery with the OpenStreetMap community to improve maps of potential crisis areas. Now the agency's MapGive project is making it easier for would-be mappers to turn those pictures into valuable geodata.
Released on Jan. 14, this video features the U.S. Agency for International Development's Shadrock Roberts, the State Department's Joshua Campbell and a host of OpenStreetMap partners explaining why maps matter and how ordinary citizens can contribute. More information on the project can be found at MapGive.state.gov..
