Another Day, Another Shutdown for the VA Claims System
Outages are seemingly routine.
This post has been updated with a comment from VA.
I have received reports from Veterans Benefits Administration offices that the paperless Veterans Benefits Management System once again experienced a nationwide shutdown, an occurrence so routine it soon will not fit the definition of news.
Eric Jenkins, a ratings service representative at the VBA Winston-Salem, N.C., regional office and a member of the AFGE National VA Council, told a hearing of the House VA Committee last Wednesday that VBMS shut down on roughly a weekly basis in the previous month.
A VA spokeswoman said late yesterday that "a hardware device that supports VBMS was restored Monday morning after a five-hour interruption in service. VBMS is now functioning normally for VBA employees."
