Video: Open Data and Fostering Citizen Advocacy

How does an organization function when it can't easily access its own data? Julie Steenson, senior performance management analyst for Kansas City, Missouri, details the problems the city encountered with that scenario, before unlocking years of data to create a central platform, accessible for all departments.

"We didn't even really recognize the limitations that we had until we had a platform that we could share." Steenson said. "What open data has done for us has really allow a centralized repository where internally we can take some steps toward solving solutions across departments by looking at each other's data."
