Video: Open Data and Improving Quality of Life
The seventh installment in our collaboration with Socrata's Open Data TV.
Like many local governments, Florida's Miami-Dade County relies on open data to help its citizens.
Mike Hernandez, director of communications for Miami-Dade County, hopes to make the data easily accessible, and not just for those who submit public records requests.
"We need to educate our public, and we need to not only explain to them that the data is available, but why it's there, why it's available," Hernandez said, citing examples such as traffic data. "There's so many different ways to ensure that our citizens have the information they need and open data is the way to go."
