NASA Names New CIO

NASA has just named a new top IT official.

Renee Wynn began her tenure Monday as NASA's chief information officer after serving for three months as the agency’s deputy CIO, the agency announced .

Wynn is expected to concentrate on boosting the agency’s IT security efforts, launching state-of-the-art services through data analytics and visualization and increasing NASA’s collaboration with outside agencies, according to the notice.

She replaces Larry Sweet, who served as CIO for about two years, after working at NASA for almost three decades.

During Sweet's term as CIO, he worked to increase collaboration within the agency, address inefficiencies and cut unnecessary program costs, NASA said.

Sweet was set to retire in November, but has stepped down earlier in the hopes of making the transition between CIOs smoother.

Wynn joined the agency in July after leaving her post as the Environmental Protection Agency’s acting assistant administrator for its office of environmental information. She worked at EPA for about 25 years.
