SBA Names Its First Chief Digital Officer
In announcing the news, Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet said Tracy Terrill “in record time” had created SBA’s digital service team with both industry and government talent.
The Small Business Administration has added a new name to its roster of C-level officials.
Tracy Terrill, who most recently served as chief technology officer at LegalZoom, has been tapped as SBA’s new chief digital officer -- a newly created role for the agency.
In announcing the news, Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet said Terrill “in record time” stood up SBA’s digital service team with both industry and government talent.
“The team is charged with guiding improvement of our systems and ensuring that the SBA leverages its digital capabilities to effectively serve entrepreneurs and small businesses,” Contreras-Sweet added.
Prior to LegalZoom, which he joined in 2007, Terrill served in various marketing and technology leadership roles with NBC Universal Studios, Universal Music Group, Warner Brothers and Gartner.
"The mission of SBA aligns with my passion for small business and entrepreneurs. In many ways, joining the SBA feels like an extension of my work at LegalZoom," he said. "As with LegalZoom, the SBA is focused on making resources easily accessible to entrepreneurs. I'm fully committed to the administrator's mission to make the SBA smart, bold and accessible."
SBA follows in the foot steps of other agencies that have added in-house digital fixers, replicated by the White House's U.S. Digital Service. The administration’s decision to scale and "institutionalize" USDS came from agency demands, which USDS head Mikey Dickerson last year called “off the charts."
