Where else in Washington, D.C., can you drink for free and speak geek?
In March, the government dropped a new policy to open up a percentage of its custom-written source code.
The White House open source software policy quickly grabbed headlines when officials from various agencies voiced conflicting opinions. While parties appear to be on the same page now, open source software has undoubtedly been thrust into the spotlight.
Naturally, open source makes the perfect subject to begin our summer series of Tech & Tequila meet-ups.
We’re billing it, “Open source meets open bar.” Where else in Washington, D.C., can you drink for free and speak geek? We’re hosting it 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 18 at The Loft at 600 F.
Our speakers include:
- Alexis Bonnell, chief of applied innovation & acceleration, U.S. Agency for International Development
- Michael Cheek, intelligence officer at the Defense Department
- Jay Huie, an innovation specialist at the General Services Administration’s 18F.
We’ve also received tentative confirmation from Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., one of the few congressional techies and founding member of the Congressional Open Source Technology Caucus. Congress, by the way, got on the open source bandwagon last year.
