Other tech companies are also trying to distance themselves from the government.
U.S. intelligence agencies can no longer use a data service that provides trend analysis on every tweet ever, known as Dataminr, according to recent news reports.
Many companies and media organizations subscribe to the service to better understand what's going on around the world. But for the intelligence community, it could be useful in tracking or even stopping a terror attack.
Twitter, however, never gave Dataminr permission to sell its data to government agencies. Other tech companies are trying to distance themselves from the government, so users will continue to trust them with their data. Facebook recently released its Global Government Requests report to ensure transparency when it comes to government requests for data.
