Under his leadership, the Biodefense Laboratory Management System provided a mechanism by which resources could be tracked and managed within USAMRIID in order to identify potential bottlenecks and mitigate their impact on getting the technical information to the people who needed it, thereby preventing the spread of the disease and saving lives. Dertzbaugh’s expertise and ability to work in a complex, crisis environment contributed significantly to the successful response to the Ebola outbreak.
