Trump’s GSA Nominee Gets One Step Closer to Confirmation

Emily Murphy, the longtime congressional staff procurement specialist who is President Trump’s nominee to lead the General Services Administration, won approval on Monday night from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

In a business meeting held off camera near the Senate floor, the senators on the panel unanimously agreed to send Murphy’s nomination to the full Senate, a committee source said.

Murphy, who was the first chief acquisition officer at GSA, said if confirmed she would focus on ethical leadership; reducing duplication through such tools as shared services; looking for ways to increase competition at the contract and task order level; and improving transparency, particularly in GSA databases.

Her Oct. 18 confirmation hearing generated bipartisan praise.
