Senate Confirms GSA Leader

New Administrator Emily Webster Murphy has extensive experience in acquisition.
The Senate on Tuesday confirmed Emily Webster Murphy to head up the federal government’s buying hub, a move that has drawn support from technology contracting groups who think her appointment could be good for business.
Murphy has previously served as a senior adviser at the General Services Administration, where she oversaw the reorganization of the Federal Acquisition Service to include the Technology Transformation Services. She has also worked as a counsel for the House Armed Services Committee.
Technology trade groups including the Professional Services Council and Information Technology Industry Council endorsed her nomination when it was announced.
Given her experience at GSA, Murphy could help tech companies try to modernize government infrastructure, Senior Vice President of Public Sector Trey Hodgkins said.
Contractors’ priorities include better protecting the federal government’s network cybersecurity, providing cloud computing services, and analyzing data to understand how the government uses its technology resources, he explained. He said he expected Murphy was “willing to look at these things, willing to undertake the new initiatives.”
